An array of benefits accompany the decision to add a recliner to your lounge room. Firstly, recliners significantly enhance mobility, particularly beneficial for those faced with mobility difficulties. A recliner aids movement, alleviating any unnecessary strain on your back or joints.
Moreover, they improve circulation. Long hours spent sitting can detrimentally affect your legs and joints due to the impact of gravity on blood flow. Recliners help mitigate this issue by uniformly distributing your bodyweight, lessening the stress on varying parts of your body and optimising blood circulation.
Choosing a recliner that supports your lower back is also of paramount importance, as they can help alleviate back discomfort, promote proper posture, and reduce the risk of injury through proper spinal cord alignment.
Finally, recliners offer invaluable stress relief. They work to alleviate physical and mental stress through features designed for your comfort and ease such as power reclining and lumbar support.
Recliners come in various types, all tailored to provide optimal comfort and support. Understanding the key differences between these popular living room pieces is essential before making your purchase decision.
Lay-Flat Recliner: These chairs, the first to spring to mind for most when they hear 'recliner', offer a full layout position for ultimate relaxation or sleep. They require about 35cm of wall clearance to fully recline.
Rocker Recliner: Ideal for nursing mothers and those struggling with sleep, these recliners move on arched tracks, creating a soothing rocking motion that can aid sleep.
Power Recliner: This variant, unlike traditional recliners, employs a power button for electrically reclining the chair. Many power recliners come with customisable features like an adjustable power headrest.
Lift Recliner: A godsend for those having difficulty rising from a recliner, these lift-assist chairs transform from a flat-seated to an upright-angled position, assisting the occupant to stand. They are often recommended for individuals with weak knees, legs, or hips.
Push-Back Recliner: These recliners work without a lever or button, relying instead on the seated person's pressure on the chair back. Their suitability depends on your physical ability and comfort preferences.
Swivel Recliner: With a circular base, these recliners swivel left and right, offering a full range of motion that many find preferable over other types' limited movement.
Kick-off your recliner cleaning process by giving the chair a thorough vacuuming, making sure you cover the seat, underside, and hidden crevices. After that, create a mixture of warm soapy water in a spray bottle and spritz the recliner lightly before wiping down with a clean, soft cloth.
If your recliner's material is leather, gently wipe the entire leather surface using a slightly damp towel. Avoid over-wetting as it can lead to a dull appearance. Once done, buff the leather dry with a clean, dry cloth. You might consider a leather protection product to maintain its freshness.
For recliners with upholstered fabric, remember to consult the tag on your fabric before proceeding. This tag provides valuable information about the appropriate cleaning methods.
Yes - our full range of Dorsal bed bases is exclusive to The Comfort Shop - they are not available in any other store.
Our range of Dorsal bed bases (Forza / Viva / Ergo) are designed and manufactured in Italy.
Posture slat bed bases are designed to provide maximum comfort and support. The flexible slats work with your mattress to reduce pressure points on your body and give you the most comfortable night’s sleep possible.
It is very rare for a posture slat to break (see Warranty & Care Information), however in the unlikely event this does occur, we keep replacement slats at our warehouse.
This is to allow each person to adjust the base on each side to suit their own needs - firmer or softer. This also helps reduce partner disturbance or transfer of movement across the base and mattress. It also makes the base a more sturdy and stronger structur
Pushing the adjusters away from each other on each side of the base makes the slats firmer - pushing them together to touch in the middle of each half of the base makes the slats softer.
Yes – The Comfort Shop stocks a range of both manually adjustable bed bases and electric adjustable bed bases.
Yes – all of our bed bases are designed to be installed inside bed surrounds. The Forza bed base is designed specifically for this purpose and is a very affordable way of keeping your current bed surround, but upgrading the base inside.
Yes – our range of posture slat bases are designed to support any sort of mattress – although we recommend one of our range of pure Latex Mattresses or Visco Elastic Mattresses.
All of our bed bases include a 5 year warranty – see Warranty and Care information.
The Comfort Shop stocks Australia’s largest range of Visco Elastic mattresses and 100% pure Latex mattresses by Italian designer, Stella Rubino. Our full range of mattresses are designed and produced in Italy.
No - our range of mattresses is exclusive to The Comfort Shop - we import directly from the manufacturer and sell our range through our stores in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
We stock all standard size mattresses and can order special sizes by request.
Stella Rubino mattresses are either 18cm, 19cm, or 21cm thick, which is a total sum of the core and the removable mattress cover. The removable mattress covers contribute 3cm to the overall thickness and length at the top and bottom of the mattresses.
Although mattress toppers and protectors may appear similar at first glance, they play distinctly different roles. A mattress topper's primary function revolves around offering enhanced support and comfort, a particularly helpful feature when your bed's firmness leaves you unsatisfied.
Meanwhile, a mattress protector focuses on safeguarding your valuable mattress. Designed to keep your mattress in prime condition, protectors ward off unpleasant odours and resist liquid, all while offering an additional layer of comfort through temperature control.
In essence, a mattress protector primarily acts as a safeguard for your bed, similar to a snugly fitting sheet, though not entirely encompassing it. This handy layer shields the mattress from an array of potential harms, including unintentional liquid spills, microbial intrusions, and even certain allergen types. Comprising water-repellent fabric, these protectors allow ample ventilation, ensuring breathability isn't compromised.
Looking after your mattress protector necessitates adherence to a specific regimen, much like ensuring the longevity of your mattress itself.
When you've taken it out fresh from the package, launder your mattress protector before placing it on your bed. This will help to remove any residual odours and work to soften the fabric. Opt for a gentle wash cycle with cold or lukewarm water; high temperatures might degrade the waterproofing elements, lessening the protector's effectiveness. Choose a mild, non-bleach detergent to wash your protector. Harsh cleaning agents could potentially damage the plastic membrane or binding material of the protector.
Firstly, liberally apply a stain-remover spray onto the stained area of your mattress protector. For fresh stains, a clean cloth should be used to absorb any remaining moisture. Once the stain has been sprayed, gently blot the area with a damp cloth until the mark disappears.
Secondly, fill an empty spray bottle with a cup of vinegar, and spritz it onto the stain. Let the vinegar penetrate the stain for several minutes. Now, pat some baking soda onto the stain, which will result in a bubbling action. Use a clean cloth to blot away the moisture, then leave it to dry.
Thirdly, dip a cloth into a small amount of hydrogen peroxide and dab the stain until it fades away. Be mindful not to drench the stain, as this could result in the liquid seeping into your mattress.
Finally, remove the mattress protector from the mattress and pre-treat any lingering stains with a stain remover. Allow this to penetrate for several minutes, then wash the protector separately in your washing machine. Be sure to consult the tag on the protector for specific temperature and washing guidelines.
Your mattress protector should ideally be air-dried over an expansive washing line to enhance air circulation and minimise drying duration. If you're using a machine to dry it, ensure that you're tumbling it together with other bed linens or towels, setting the heat to medium. Lower heat settings can optimise results.
Proper drying methods help avoid polyurethane backing blistering. If overheating leads to the formation of blisters, you should stop using the protector, as these blisters may rupture, leading to a compromised waterproofing ability and possibly invalidating any product warranty.
Proceed with caution when considering folding your mattress. Steer clear of folding innerspring mattresses or those foam mattresses exceeding 15 centimetres in thickness. Slimmer memory foam and latex mattresses may be folded temporarily and secured using mattress straps during relocation. However, the optimal way to move a foam mattress involves vacuum packing and rolling. Folding an innerspring mattress stands as a significant no-no, as this action can cause damage to the mattress's structure.
Latex is a naturally therapeutic product derived from the sap found in rubber trees. Its rubber properties enable latex to bend and contour around any shape that is applying pressure to it. It bounces back to its original position a soon as the pressure is removed.
Latex mattresses are unique, blending latex foam with either springs or reflex foam to form a resilient, supportive surface for sleep. Originating from the sap of a rubber tree, the latent potential of latex was unveiled by Dunlopillo in the early 20th century. As latex derives from a natural source, these mattresses frequently integrate other organic fillings, crafting the optimal all-natural mattress. These mattresses come with the added advantages of durability, low maintenance, and hypoallergenic properties.
A latex mattress:
Zoning is when a mattress is staged in different densities to cater for different areas of your body. For example a mattress needs to be softer over your shoulder area and firmer over your lower back where you need more support. A three zone mattress will have three different densities in the one mattress.
A latex mattress does need to be turned over and rotated. We recommend that latex mattresses are turned once per month, and then rotated the next month, and then turned over again and so on. This is to ensure the latex wears evenly on all sides of the mattress.
Latex is a closed cell material, and therefore it needs to be perforated (have pin core holes through the mattress) to allow it to breathe. Provided the mattress is perforated and the mattress is on a slatted base the mattress will not be hotter than a spring mattress.
Latex is hypoallergenic meaning it is great for allergy sufferers or for people who suffer from hay fever, asthma and respiratory problems. Dust mites cannot live in a latex mattress and as a result latex mattresses promote good health.
Yes, electric blankets do not harm latex mattresses. It is best to choose one with thin wires or to purchase an electric quilt by Sunbeam.
We suggest all of our mattresses either go on a slat base or a base with holes in it to allow air to flow naturally through the base and the mattress. You achieve approximately 30% of your comfort from your bed base, so it is an important factor to consider.
Most of our latex mattresses come with a 10 year warranty - however, they will last 15 to 20 years depending on your weight and how well you look after them.
Visco elastic is a synthetic foam based material that moulds perfectly to any shape when pressure is applied to it, and returns slowly to its original shape once pressure is removed.
A visco elastic mattress:
Zoning is when a mattress is staged in different densities to cater for different areas of your body. For example a mattress needs to be softer over your shoulder area and firmer over your lower back where you need more support. A three zone mattress will have three different densities in the one mattress.
A visco elastic mattress does not need to be turned over, however it should be rotated end to end once per month.
Visco elastic is an open cell material, meaning that air will filter naturally through the mattress keeping it at room temperature. This is provided it is on slat base or a bed base that air can get through.
Visco elastic is anti allergenic meaning it is great for allergy sufferers. Dust mites can not live in a visco elastic mattress and as a result these mattresses promote good health.

A headboard is essentially a furnishing piece, affixed to the top end of a bed. Originally designed to protect sleepers from the chilliness of uninsulated walls, contemporary usage mainly revolves around style, charm, and practical applications, thereby creating a distinctive focal point within a bedroom.
Absolutely, most headboards are compatible with adjustable bases. There are two ways you can go about this. One option involves affixing the headboard directly to the adjustable base, requiring the purchase of headboard brackets. Alternatively, you could opt for a floating headboard, which eliminates the necessity for a bed frame when used with an adjustable base.
Keeping a fabric bedhead tidy doesn't require significant effort, given regular cleaning practices are adhered to. However, this element of your bed does need a particular set of steps for optimal cleanliness:
1. Hoover the fabric bedhead, eliminating any dust or grime that may have built up.
2. Concoct a cleaning solution with lukewarm water and a dash of detergent — enough to create a frothy mix.
3. Using a cloth, apply this solution to minor blemishes on your bedhead.
4. For stubborn marks, fabric cleaner may be required. Apply to the stain, let it sit for a few hours, then come back.
5. Prior to using any fabric cleaner, conduct a spot test on a less visible part of the bedhead. If discolouration occurs, it may be best to opt for a different product.
6. After allowing the bedhead to dry, return with the vacuum to get rid of any residual cleaner. If you're in a rush, you might even consider using a hairdryer to expedite the drying process.

Often recognised as a wall bed, pull-down bed, or fold-down bed, a Murphy bed exhibits a unique design feature allowing for vertical storage against a wall or within a closet or cabinet, as per individual choice. The Murphy bed's space-efficient attributes and multi-purpose functionality make them a preferred choice in modern living. Nevertheless, certain drawbacks need consideration before deciding on acquiring one. An essential factor to mull over is the weight capacity each Murphy bed variant can bear.
Rest assured, Murphy beds are as secure as any other bedding option. These wall beds inherently include locking legs, ensuring they don't unintentionally open or close, offering you a safe home environment. For added security and peace of mind, one could consider a Murphy bed equipped with key locks.
Navigating the distinctions between double and queen beds can feel like a fine line, but in reality, a couple of significant differences exist. Initially, queen beds offer an extra 15 centimetres in width compared to double beds. While a double bed spans 137 centimetres in width, a queen bed extends to 152 centimetres.
Moreover, queen beds also hold an advantage in length, stretching an additional 13 centimetres beyond the length of double beds. That means while a double bed's length stands at 190 centimetres, a queen bed reaches to 203 centimetres. While these figures might not seem large, any individual who's shared a bed can attest to the substantial difference a few square inches of space can create.
The distinction between a King and Super King essentially lies in dimensions, with the Super King boasting an additional 20cm in width compared to the King. While mattress height and construction may vary, these alternatives span all sizes.
King-sized dimensions stand at 183 x 203 cm. In contrast, a Super King spans 203 x 203 cm.
Modern folding beds, typically equipped with a 5cm thick memory foam mattress, promise a significantly comfortable experience. While their comfort levels are commendable, they might not completely parallel the comfort offered by a standard bed due to their less substantial mattress and base. However, their real charm lies in their adaptability.
